The
Mobile Area Water and Sewer System’s wastewater
collection system Capacity Assurance Program, a Capacity, Management,
Operation and Maintenance (CMOM) program, is designed to provide
adequately capacity to convey base flows and peak flow, to facilitate
the evaluation of portions of the collection system experiencing
SSO discharge, to establish actions to address hydraulic deficiencies,
and to provide for the certification of available capacity prior
to connecting new customers to the system. Available sewer capacity
at specified locations is determined by a computerized hydraulic
model prior to authorizing new sewer connections. Historical
flow data from various permanent flow monitoring sites is used
to calibrate the hydraulic model. The model is used to model
both force mains and gravity sewers, to demonstrate the flow
capacity of each major gravity sewer line, to determine wet and
dry weather peak flows, and to predict the locations of possible
sewage overflows. The program began in August 2002, and has been
used to successfully identify and correct wastewater collection
system deficiencies that were restricting capacity. The presentation
will summarize the program and address the latest developments. |
