SANITARY SEWER FLOW MONITORING AND MICRO-BASIN INVESTIGATIONS
Houston Matthews & Mark Huber

In response to guidelines from U.S. EPA, the City of Huntsville, Alabama, Water Pollution Control Department’s ongoing CMOM (Capacity, Management, Operations & Maintenance) Program was evaluated based on 14 discrete micro-basins. Flow monitoring information was used to target field investigations designed to locate and characterize significant I/I related defects within the flow monitoring basins. A Temporary Flow Monitoring Scheme identified locations for temporary meters. The target basins for temporary metering were developed using data gathered under the ongoing CMOM program. The target basins were discrete, independent basins to the extent allowed by the system’s configuration and contained no less than 10,000 linear feet of collector sewer (diameter < 15-inch). The information obtained during the field investigations were ultimately used to develop a rehabilitation plan.
