The
Cities of Daphne and Foley, Alabama are changing their traditional
approach to manage environmental issues. Until recently,
cities have relied on the state or federal government to
protect the environment through regulatory enforcement. Daphne
and Foley have taken a new tactic in order to protect the
environmental resources the cities possess. This process
encompasses the creation and enforcement of municipal
ordinances and regulations which control impacts to the environment.
From the review of single family residential Construction Best
Management Practices Plans to the drafting of detention basin
maintenance ordinances, these cities have found that they have
more power to protect the environment through developing and
amending ordinances and regulations. Furthermore, both cities
have worked extensively to educate the general public, the regulated
community, and the city staff concerning all aspects of the environment.
The key is the cities are working with the community to create
changes for a better environment. |
