| COLLECTION
SYSTEMS COMMITTEE
This committee provides information concerning collection systems operations and management to the AWEA membership. This information covers the technical issues relating to assessment, rehabilitation, repairs and routine maintenance of sanitary sewer collection systems, storm sewers and combined sewers. In addition, this committee educates members on political and regulatory issues relating to these areas. The primary functions of this committee can be summarized by the following: 1. Submit reports to the AWEA Board of Directors summarizing Committee activities; 2. Sponsor workshops, conferences and technical sessions which aid in educating members in this area; 3. Coordinate events with the Education Committee Chairperson and with the annual conference coordinator; 4. Identify speakers and topics pertaining to collection systems for use in the annual conference technical program; and 5. Gathers, prepares and disseminates information Golden Manhole Award The Collection Committee strives to recognize current and past AWEA members who have made substantial contributions to the focus of the Collections Committee. The committee has implemented a Golden Manhole Award which mimics the award presented at the national level for contributions to the Water Environment Federation (WEF) Collection System Committee. Recipients of this award are selected by the Collection Systems Committee. The criteria for selection are as follows: 1. Years of experience and significant participation in the areas of sanitary sewer, storm sewer and/or combined sewer collection systems; 2. Involvement in promoting the professional recognition of the collection system field; 3. Participation in the Alabama Water Environment Association collection system committee; 4. Papers or articles accepted by state, regional or national publications or by technical conferences; and 5. Membership in the WEF National Collection Systems Committee.
